High-Performance Wall – Stucco & ThermalBuck

Nick Brown of Build Smart Group, representing the Stucco Manufacturer’s Association, explains the exterior of the High-Performance Wall display from the PCBC show in San Diego, June 2017, built by Reliable Lumber of Huntingdon Beach. This High-Performance Wall & Attic display was featured as part of the California Homebuilding Foundation & California Energy Commissions joint efforts to educate builders about suggested performance path methods to achieve the Title 24 Energy Standards. The high-performance wall system includes Sierra Pacific windows mounted in 1.5″ ThermalBuck, DuPont Flashing, RMax insulation, Parex, One-Coat Stucco, and Sun Power solar panels.

In August 2016, AAMA published the joint document, FMA/AAMA/WDMA 500-16 “Standard Practice for the Installation of Mounting Flange Windows into Walls Utilizing Foam Plastic Insulating Sheathing (FPIS) with a Separate Water-Resistive Barrier (WRB).”   

The joint committee of the FMA/AAMA/WDMA recommends the use of a ROESE (Rough Opening Extension Support Element) in 2 out of 3 methods when installing windows with rigid foam.
